You can chose any attorney you would like to assist you with your case.
Although, I would recommend you hire someone that has actually done a
couple of adoptions through the DCS process. It’s different than
a stepparent adoption; you have to make sure that the families are getting
the subsidy they deserve and that the subsidy is completed before the
adoption. When you don’t actually need the subsidy, you leave it.
Your DCS case worker will work with your attorney to help make sure that
it’s completed prior to your adoption.
It’s just really important for your attorney to have past experience
in this area because there are all these little tricks that you basically
just have to know that aren’t written down anywhere. So just make
sure you hire someone that knowns what they’re doing. It could be
someone you heard speaking in this class or someone that you know, a friend
of a friend. The choice is yours!
